Abstract

The reverse osmosis membrane is very sensitive to contaminations present in seawater which makes the pre-treatment step very important to ensure maximum efficiency of the RO process. The photocatalysis can be used to replace the conventional chemical pretreatment process. Semiconductors photocatalysts are used to oxidize contaminated seawater. It can decompose organic matter into smaller compound and low poisonousness inorganic matter thereby increase life span of RO membrane. This research aims to study the degradation of organic and inorganic pollutants present in seawater by photocatalytic reaction with TiO2, H2O2, and Fe2O12S3.5H2O in batch-suspension method.
