Biosynthesis of silver nanoparticles using aqueous leaf extract of Muntingia calabura Linn.

Iniya Udhaya C

Abstract

The present study was focused to synthesis silver nanoparticles using the aqueous leaf extract of Muntingia calabura L. as the reducing agent. The formation of silver nanoparticles was confirmed by colour change from light yellow to dark brownish red, UV-Visible Spectroscopy, FT-IR, X-Ray Diffraction Method (XRD), Scanning Electron Microscopy (SEM) and Energy Dispersive X-ray microanalysis spectroscopy (EDS). The nanoparticles showed an absorbance at 443nm on UV-Visible spectroscopy. The presence of proteins was identified by Fourier Transform-Infra Red spectroscopy (FT-IR). The presence of elemental silver was characterized by X-Ray Diffraction Method (XRD). The observed results indicated that the reaction product was composed of high purity silver nanoparticles and the diameter of prepared silver nanoparticles was about 28-43 nm. These results not only provide a green approach for the synthesis of nanoparticles but also open a door for new pharmaceutical production. Keywords: Nanobiotechnology, Muntingia calabura, silver nanoparticles, antibacterial.
