Study of Fingerprint Patterns of MBBS Students of Silchar Medical College

Abstract


Identity is a set of physical characteristics, normal or pathological that defines an individual. There are various identification data that are used. Amongst them, fingerprint is the most constant and individualistic, and forms the most reliable criteria for identification. Due to the immense potential of fingerprints as an effective method of identification, the present study aims to analyze the fingerprint patterns of MBBS students of Silchar Medical College. ‘Dermatoglyphics’ is the study of epidermal ridges and their configurations on the palms of hands. Fingerprint patterns were studied in 98 students, 61 males and 37 females. Dermatoglyphic prints of the fingertips were taken using the ink method. Distribution of the fingerprint patterns was studied in both hands of male and female students and compared.
