Effectiveness of Progressive Muscle Relaxation Therapy in Reducing Anxiety among the Elderly Residing in Selected Old Age Home at Nashik

Abstract


The purpose of the present study was to assess the effectiveness of progressive muscle relaxation therapy (PMRT) in reducing anxiety among the elderly residing in selected old age home in Nashik, Maharashtra, India. A quasi-experimental one group pre-test post-test control group research design was used. A total of 60 samples (30 control group and 30 experimental group) of non-probability purposive sampling technique were used. The pre-test knowledge score was 11.6 and post-test knowledge score was 8.1. The p-value less than 0.0 showed significant difference in the knowledge scores. The t-test value of paired t-test was 0.24. The p-value of the test was more than 0.05 showing no significant difference in the knowledge scores. It was concluded that PMRT was effective in reducing anxiety among elderly people.
