Finite Element Analysis of Composite Tube

Iffat R Arisa

Abstract

Abstract – In many industries, composite tubes are preferable than other materials, like, aluminum, steel, wood, iron. The durability, strength, stiffness, weather and corrosion resistance of the tubes are required properties in industries. It is fabricated in several layers depending on their functions. In this study, composite tube is modeled using ANSYS software by changing material properties and layer orientation. ANSYS can predict results before fabricating composite sample. The meshed model is set up with point load and uniform load with constraints. Due to the loads, the tube gets deformed. The deformed and undeformed configurations are analyzed from the simulations through Von Mises plots. It is found that uniformly loaded hoop has greatest displacement.

Keywords – Composite tube, material properties, layer orientation, Von Mises plots.
