Synthesis of Biodegradable Nano Composite of PMMA vinyl Polymer with Corn Cob

Rinku Rana, Ajay Singh

Abstract

Vinyl polymers are the largest category of polymers which have wide applications. PMMA is important vinyl polymer which when modified with with  Corn Cob(agricultural waste) for nanocomposite formation, then it may result biodegradable modified polymer. Corn cobs (focal piece of maize) are either treated as waste or consumed as fuel causing ecological concern. So as to accomplish its worth option in new research regions, corn cob can be prepared synthetically to discover approaches to create new final results with included qualities at exceptionally low cost.Cellulose-based Nano composite are degradable in nature .The alkaline and bleaching treatment was used effectively to expel the lignin from corncob, and the intermediate was used to prepare Nano crystalline cellulose (NCC) with a very mild ultrasonic treatment . When the time for ultrasonic treatment increased, the absolute value of the zeta potential increased and the particle size decreased  simultaneously. Then the reinforcement of Polymethyl methacrylate (PMMA) with Nano crystalline cellulose  was performed, and the Nano composite of (PMMA) and (NCC) was prepared. The FTIR and SEM analysis results provednanocomposite formation below 100 nm particle size.
