Exploring Aptamer Applications in Analytical Chemistry, Medicine, and Food Industry.

Neha Sahu, Rizwan Arif

Abstract

Many studies have been conducted and a large number of isolated aptamers for different targets have been used since Ellington and Gold's independent description of aptamer and its in vitro selection method, known as SELEX, in 1990. With excellent binding affinity and selectivity, aptamers can bind to a variety of targets, such as haptens, small organic molecules, inorganic compounds, and even entire cells. Currently, aptamers for a large variety of targets have been chosen. Aptamers are also simple to handle or store because they are thermostable and readily regenerable after a short period of denaturation. Aptamers are highly suited for uses involving molecular recognition as analytical, therapeutic, and diagnostic instruments because of these benefits. This review will cover the current uses of aptamers in the fields of medicine, food security, and chemistry analysis, as well as potential future developments.
