A Review on Superhydrophobic Coating for Personal Protective Equipment in Coronavirus (Covid-19) Pandemic

SOMESH BHAGURE

Abstract

Novel coronavirus (COVID-19) infection caused by a newly acquired coronavirus. We have entered the global epidemic. It is important to maintain physical distance to prevent the spread of coronavirus among humans. However, health care workers and other paramedics worked 24 X 7 to rescue patients. While operating, the use of protective equipment is required. The use of protective equipment such as face masks, gloves and aprons is essential to prevent health workers from contracting the deadly virus. Therefore, PPE plays a very important role in protection. The novel coronavirus can be easily passed through droplets when infected patients sneeze or cough. Coronaviruses spread heavy droplets which is why they hang in the air and stick easily on the surface of personal protective equipment. This is due to the low contact angle of the PPE used. Superhydrophobic coverage, therefore, can work against the spread of coronavirus by droplets. Superhydrophobic coating with a high contact angle, i.e. more than 150° can easily prevent the adhesion of coughing, sneezing droplets on PPEs.
