Recent Perspectives of Nanovaccines

Sophia Inbaraj

Abstract

Vaccines are the whole or partial component of the infectious organism which are injected into host to stimulate immune response against the disease. The traditional vaccines suffer limitations such as conversion to virulence, lack of desired immune response, adverse reactions etc. In the recent decades, nanomaterial-based vaccines were found to be safe and better immunogens than traditional ones. Nanovaccines target the antigen presenting cells and hence able to induce humoral, mucosal and cell mediated immune response. The mucosal immunity offered by nanovaccines makes it an attractive candidate for mucosal route of delivery which favours mass immunisation. Therefore, more research in the field will further help in commercial production and use of nanovaccine.
