Effect of Abrasive Water Jet Machining Parameters—An Experimental Investigation

Manikandan Vai, P. Amuthakkannan, A. Muthiah

Abstract

Machining studies on the fiber reinforced polymer composites is vital requirement for the composites application in different fields. Particularly advanced machining techniques like abrasive water jet machining can be machined with higher accuracy and distortion free composites. In this work aims to study the abrasive machining parameters on the basalt fiber polymer composites. The woven basalt fiber reinforced polymer composites were prepared using hand layup techniques. The machining effect of fabricated composites was analyzed experimentally through abrasive water jet machining. The process parameter for the study was taken as stand of distance (SOD), water pressure, and transverse speed. It was concluded that the water pressure is influencing parameter in machining of basalt fiber composites
