Abstract

Steel slag is a by-product of steel manufacture such as to respect the achievement of one ton to liberate 160 kg of steel slag. Thereby chemical compounds content in slag dust of steel slag have been SiO2, CaO, Fe2O3, Al2O3, and MnO, whereas mineral components of steel slag have been C3S, C2S, C4AF, RO phase, and free-CaO. Steel slag has been applied in ceramics, road pavement materials, stockpile of mineral admixture for concrete as well as used for hydration based supplement similar to that of cement. Otherwise, the subject has studied applicable waste materials in road construction to class into three basic groups, given by re-usable construction materials, industry by-products and natural construction materials of a lower usable value. Quantity of slag waste generation has been around 24 lacs mt/y India from different steel industries. Feasibility to recycle slag waste in different layers of road construction has been investigated in response to improve geotechnical engineering properties. Subjective as assesses suggestion to use steel slag material after mechanical stabilization with locally available soil admix in range of 5 –25%.
