Mesomorphic Study of Achiral Hockey Stick- shaped Imine Linked Thiadiazole Compounds

Sushma ., B S Priya, S. Ananda

Abstract

Achiral hockey stick-shaped molecules are a new extended set for calamitic rod-like liquid crystals, thiadiazole with Incorporation of a nitrogen linkage to the basic structures of a compound will acquaint another new property called photochromism along with liquid crystal because of the photo-isomerization of the -C=N linkage. Now, assuming such compounds also show the liquid crystalline property, then they will become multi-functional due to their photochromic property which might be taken advantage of for applications. Accordingly, in the present study, the point is to research hockey stick-molded compounds by incorporating carbon and nitrogen linkages. Indeed, even a little change, for example, changing/switching a linkage group in bowed center compounds might influence the mesomorphic properties to a larger extent. These compounds exhibit only unidentified mesophases SmX3 and cholesteric phases. The POM and XRD results indicate that confirmed the Sm mesophase These compounds' reversible photo-switching behavior was demonstrated in the early tests, which is helpful for future applications.
