Comparative Study of Oil Palm Fibre for Effective Remediation of Crude Oil in a Contaminated Soil

Abstract

Comparative study was conducted on two different oil palm fibre effectiveness on degradation of crude oil contaminated loamy soil. The method of X-ray fluorescence spectrometer (GC) was applied for crude oil analysis as well as the different samples of oil palm fibres, which was classified as Elaeis Guineeensis and Tekena Species was analyzed to determine the possible elements present in the specimen and the result obtained identified, Mg, P, Si,  S, K, and Ca with different concentration. The comparative behaviors of the TPH remediation in different environmental conditions and from the data generated from the experiment and model reveals the improve fibre dark degraded 76.4%, improve fibre sunlight 93.1%, local fibre dark 92.3%, local fibre sunlight 97.4% and local with sunlight 92.8% of the contaminants . The research work reveals that the local oil palm fibre dried in the present of sunlight gives the highest crude oil degradation in the loamy soil environment.
